Premedications
If you have a condition that requires antibiotic premedication be taken before dental procedures – heart murmur, MVP, valvular damage or any joint replacement – please contact your physician before your appointment. Let them know you will be having root canal therapy and ask their office for the prescription and instructions. If you already have an antibiotic prescription for your premedication, please remember to take the medication as directed.
Occasionally, if our schedule allows, your endodontic treatment can be completed the same day as the consultation. So, having your premedication available may be advantageous. Otherwise, a second appointment on another day will be needed.
Blood Thinners
An anticoagulant, commonly known as a blood-thinner, is a substance that prevents blood from clotting. Prior to endodontic treatment, these medications may need to be stopped or have the dose adjusted to prevent bleeding complications. If you take Coumadin, Warfarin, Plavix or any other blood-thinning medication, please contact your physician for instructions before your scheduled visit.
