Cone Beam CT

There have been many significant technologic advances in Endodontics that have been integrated into our practice. Digital Radiography made treatment safer (reduced radiation exposure) and faster with better imaging. The Operating Microscope allowed us to visualize internal root canal anatomy like never before. Rotary Nickel Titanium files enhanced our ability to clean and shape complex root canal anatomy.

By far, the most signifiant advancement came in November 2009, when we introduced 3-D Cone Beam CT into our practice. The small field-of-view, high-resolution Cone Beam Computed volumetric Tomography (CBCT) unit produces three-dimensional radiographic images of the area in question. While this cutting edge technology is better known in the field of implant dentistry, it is rapidly changing and enhancing our diagnostic and treatment planning decisions in Endodontics. Tennessee Valley Endodontics was proud to be the first Endodontic office in the state of Tennessee to bring CBCT to our patients.

Benefits of 3-D imaging

Patient-Centered Approach

Because caring for patients’ health is a dental clinician’s top priority, the Kodak 9000 3D system was designed to adhere tightly to the ALARA principle, keeping radiation doses As Low As Reasonably Attainable without sacrificing image quality. The patient dose for 3D CBCT volumes is within the range of one to five regular dental film x-rays, markedly lower than larger-field CBCT systems. The Kodak 9000 3D system thus facilitates better patient care by providing more accurate and dependable treatment planning capabilities at a reduced patient dose.

Patient comfort is also a top priority, which is why the Kodak 9000 3D system features an open, face-to-face design to facilitate patient positioning and allows users to maintain eye contact and ease anxiety. The design and experience is similar to panoramic imaging which most patients are familiar with. Coincidentally, the Kodak 9000 also can be used to obtain conventional panoramic images. The system accommodates patients of all shapes and sizes and is easily accessible to patients in wheelchair.

  • Small field-of-view (37mm x 50mm), high-resolution images of your teeth and surrounding structures.
  • Low radiation compared to traditional CT scans. Because the field-of-view is focused, radiation exposure is limited to other tissues.
  • Accurate 3-D images for diagnosis, planning and treatment in endodontics, implantology, orthognathic surgery and other dental procedures.
  • Undistorted, anatomically correct views of the jaws, teeth and facial bones. Images are 1:1 ratio – no distortion of image size compared to 2D radiography
  • Improved patient care by digital file sharing with your dentist. High Definition 3D images can be used by your dentist to improve your restorative treatment plan.
  • Comfortable positioning in sitting or standing position while in constant eye contact with a member of our staff.
